On the brow of the hill above stood the Wyandot Indian Council House from 1819 to January 16, 1850. The building was covered with bark. The first Wyandot County Teachers Association was organized here on August 25, 1848. The first newspaper in Wyandot County was published here on March 1, 1845. Wyandot County was organized here on July 2, 1845. The last peace treaty with Indian tribes in Ohio was signed here in March 1842.
