Colonel Clarence S. Wadsworth was honored for his generosity in planting an arboretum for the citizens of Middletown, a living museum of northeastern U.S. forest trees. Created in 1909 with Olmsted Brothers Landscape Architects, the arboretum now holds more than 200 trees of all ages, representing 56 species both native and exotic, including every large oak species native to Connecticut.
