William Claiborne settled the southern tip of Kent Island in 1631, and the first Christian congregation in Maryland began there a year later at Kent Fort. In 1652 the congregation moved north to Broad Creek, forming the island's first town. This property, known as Little Ease, may have served as the island's first jail in 1665, its name possibly drawn from the Chamber of Little Ease in the Tower of London. After Kent Island became a parish in 1692, the church sought a glebe where a minister could live and help support the church. In 1718 Christ Church Parish purchased half of Little Ease, including two houses, and established the Glebe Farm for 12,000 pounds of tobacco. A minister finally arrived in 1721, and a parish house was built here in 1724. Fire destroyed the parish house in 1729, and during the American Revolution the church lost its minister again in 1778. By 1802 the glebe stood empty, so the congregation leased the land. In 1820 the Broad Creek church was in poor condition and the glebe produced only $60 a year. After the church collapsed during renovations in 1825, the Glebe Farm was sold in 1826 after having been home to at least 14 ministers. In 1880 the congregation moved north again and built a church in the new town of Stevensville. Today the land is called the Lillian Tanner Farm, and Christ Church Parish now gathers at its Romancoke Road location.
