John Cooke

John Cooke, the first settler of Wyoming County, was born in London in 1752, was kidnaped and sold to a Virginia planter as an indentured servant, served as a Revolutionary soldier, fought in the battles of Point Pleasant, Monmouth, and Stony Point, received a grant of land in Montgomery County, Virginia, in lieu of army pay, and in 1799 settled there on “Little Laurel” with two sons. He is buried here in the Delilah Chapel graveyard.
