Street Mountain, a 4,166-foot summit in New York’s Adirondack High Peaks, is the 31st-highest peak in the range and stands in the town of North Elba with Nye Mountain on its ridge. Surveyor Verplanck Colvin named it in 1872 for New York State Librarian Alfred Billings Street. Its first recorded ascent did not occur until June 27, 1921, when conservationist brothers Bob and George Marshall reached the top with Herbert Clark. A route from Adirondak Loj leads toward Street and Nye by way of Indian Brook and Nye Mountain. Street remains a notable part of Adirondack hiking culture and of early twentieth-century conservation history.
