Wright Peak, the northernmost major summit of the MacIntyre Range in the Adirondacks, rises 4,580 feet above North Elba and is one of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks. Named in 1873 for Silas Wright, it has an alpine summit above treeline and has long been valued for hiking and winter back-country skiing. Its slopes bear notable landslides, including the Left Wing, Right Wing, and Angel slides. The mountain is also remembered for tragedy: in 1962 a B-47 bomber from Plattsburgh Air Force Base crashed just below the summit in bad weather, killing all four crewmen, and wreckage still remains near the top.
