Mount Prophet is a steep, isolated mountain in Washington’s North Cascades, rising between remote valleys west of Ross Lake and east of the Picket Range. Surrounded by the valleys of two Beaver Creeks and Arctic Creek, it stands more than 4,000 feet above the valley floor, making it the eighteenth most prominent peak in the state. Its name refers to Tommy Rowland, a religiously fanatical prospector who lived by the Skagit River in the late nineteenth century. The mountain’s remoteness has long defined it: few people have attempted to climb it, and even the nearest approaches require long, demanding travel through one of the wildest parts of the range.
