Mount Fury is an 8,301-foot peak in the Picket Range of North Cascades National Park in northern Washington, second only to nearby Luna Peak within the group. Small glaciers cling to its slopes, reflecting the heavily glaciated nature of this rugged alpine terrain. Its marine west coast climate brings Pacific storms that rise over the mountains and produce heavy precipitation, especially wet, dense winter snow that raises avalanche danger, while summer often brings clearer weather. Mount Fury also stands in a landscape shaped by tectonic activity, terrane accretion about 50 million years ago, later uplift and faulting, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation that carved the region’s sharp ridges and deep U-shaped valleys.
