Opened in January 2006 on the campus of New Mexico Junior College near Hobbs, New Mexico, this 26,000-square-foot museum preserves the history of the Llano Estacado region of eastern New Mexico and northwestern Texas. It also includes the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, which recognizes people tied to the area’s ranching and rodeo heritage. Each year, as many as four people may be inducted. Up to three are selected for Lea County roots, distinction in rodeo, or important contributions to ranching in Lea County, while a fourth may be chosen at the board of directors’ discretion.
