Blowhole Cave in Utah County, west of Utah Lake, is a relatively short but remarkably deep cave, reaching 340 feet below the surface within a surveyed length of 1,165 feet, which ranks it as Utah’s ninth deepest cave. Owned by the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration and managed by the Timpanogos Grotto of the National Speleological Society, it is known for unusually warm, moist conditions with temperatures above 80 degrees Fahrenheit and for requiring about 400 feet of rope to explore. Its most distinctive feature is the Navajo Blanket, a wall banded in brown, tan, red, white, and gray rock. Controlled access was reinforced by installation of a cave gate in April 2006.
