Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum
History
Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, opened in 2008, is a reconstruction of Bay View Ranch, or the Martin Murphy House, one of the area’s earliest and most influential homesteads. The original house, built in 1850, was milled on the East Coast, shipped around Cape Horn, and rebuilt in Sunnyvale, where it became known as the first wood-frame house in the area. Linked to Martin Murphy Jr. and the settlement that grew around a train stop on his land in 1864, the original was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1960 before being demolished in 1961. The museum now preserves Sunnyvale’s domestic, agricultural, industrial, and technological history.
