The Delta Soldiers Memorial Monument was dedicated in 1923 to the memory of soldiers of all wars and honors soldiers of the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the World War. Its inscriptions include the biblical words, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” from St. John, Abraham Lincoln’s words on the brave men who consecrated the ground by giving the last full measure of devotion, Theodore Roosevelt’s call for America’s future to justify the valor of its soldier heroes, and Gen. John J. Pershing’s tribute to the soldier as an immortal symbol of devotion who gave everything for peace.
