The Ocoee Whitewater Center is an artificial whitewater course on the Upper Ocoee River near Ducktown, Tennessee, built for the canoe slalom events of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Unlike most artificial venues, it reshaped a 1,640-foot stretch of river instead of using a concrete channel, creating an unusually powerful Olympic course whose signature obstacle was Humongous. Water diverted from Ocoee Dam No. 3 makes the course possible but limits releases to summer weekends, supporting rafting and boating on about 34 days each year. Operated by the U.S. Forest Service, the site remains a major recreation hub despite the 2022 fire that destroyed its visitor center.
