Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Broyles-Darwin House is the oldest house within the Dayton city limits and was built in 1861 by S.D. Broyles, an early resident of Smith's Crossroads and a developer of South Dayton. The James Robert Darwin family bought the house in 1908 and during the Scopes Trial boarded two reporters.
