Lone Mountain State Forest is a 3,624-acre protected forest in Morgan County, Tennessee, centered on isolated Lone Mountain along the western edge of the Crab Orchard Mountains. Separated from nearby uplands by the Emory River, Crooked Fork, and Bitter Creek, the mountain is notable for its prominence rather than sheer height. The forest took shape through a 1938 land donation and a major purchase the following year, remained part of Morgan State Forest for decades, and became separate in 1970. Since then, limited harvesting and a largely hands-off approach have supported recovery, while trails developed for horseback riding also serve hikers and mountain bikers. Beetle infestations and a 2002 tornado significantly reshaped the forest.
