Dorothy West was a Harlem Renaissance writer and a member of this Martha's Vineyard community whose life and achievements are celebrated as part of the African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard. Born in 1907 and dying in 1998, she said, “There is no life that does not contribute to history.”
