Jesse Taylor was a private in Company F, 7th Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. Aged 21 years and 1 month, he was the first soldier from Greene County, Pennsylvania, killed in the War of the Rebellion, at Romney, West Virginia, on October 26, 1861. His comrades erected this in his memory, including S.W. Gilmore, G.W. Shough, secretary, Jefferson Dye, corresponding secretary, J.L. Garrison, treasurer, and W.H. Meighen, president of the association.
