Nature
High Point, the highest summit in New Jersey at 1,803 feet in the Kittatinny Mountains, overlooks New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania from the Skylands region near Wantage and Montague. The peak anchors High Point State Park, a 14,193-acre preserve created after Colonel Anthony R. Kuser and Susie Dryden Kuser donated the land in 1923, with grounds shaped by the Olmsted Brothers. Its summit monument, a 220-foot obelisk built from 1928 to 1930 as a memorial to war veterans, defines the site. High Point is also a prominent scenic stop on the Appalachian Trail and has remained both a landmark and a place of remembrance.
