Anthony Peak, in Northern California’s Mendocino National Forest, rises north of Mendocino Pass and about 16 miles northeast of Covelo as the highest point in Mendocino County. Part of the Northern Coast Ranges, it is notable both for its elevation and for heavy winter conditions, with an average annual summit snowpack depth of 61.8 inches. The mountain also gave its name to the Anthony Peak lupine, a rare wildflower endemic to the area. It was probably named for James Anthony, who owned a farm in the Round Valley district in 1874, and it remains one of the county’s best-known high summits.
