Drury Bridges, a Trigg County pioneer, came to Kentucky from North Carolina in 1804 and built a cabin here near Beechy Fork Creek on an 85½-acre land grant. Born in 1765, he was the son of Wm. Bridgers, a patriot who helped North Carolina troops during the Revolutionary War, and a direct descendant of Joseph Bridger (1628-1686), an influential Royalist and member of the Virginia House of Burgesses. Bridges married Charity Calhoun in 1790, and they had seven children. Active in the community, they became charter members of Donaldson Creek Baptist Church in 1814. Their home later became the site of the Maple Grove post office. Drury Bridges died in 1840 and his wife died in 1852, and both are buried in a nearby family cemetery.
