Kalmia Gardens is a 30-acre botanical garden in Hartsville, South Carolina, part of Coker University, that blends cultivated plantings with native woodland and wetland habitat along Black Creek. Established in the early 1930s by Mrs. David R. Coker on land once used as a dump, it opened to the public in 1935 and was given to the university in 1965. Its blackwater swamp, pine and oak uplands, and unusual 60-foot north-facing bluff support abundant mountain-laurel and an uncommon mix of montane and coastal plain plants. The grounds also include the 1820s Thomas Hart House and are recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
