Elizabeth Strong, Nathan Hale’s mother, lived in this early eighteenth-century house before her marriage in 1746 to Richard Hale. Born in 1727 and dying in 1767, she was “a daughter of the Puritans” and was doubly descended from Elder John Strong, who lived from 1605 to 1699 and was of Northhampton, a notable pioneer founder of New England. Six of her nine sons were engaged in the War of the American Revolution.
