Kathleen Baptist Church was established on September 14, 1895, by nine members of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Services were first held in a log structure on what is now Ross Creek Road, and baptisms took place at the mill pond just west of the creek's bridge. Within a year, the congregation built a meeting house on this site, beginning a history of building for worship and Christian education. The wood structure burned after lightning struck it in 1914. During World War II, the church kept its doors open continually so prayers could be offered for the young men of the church on active duty, and all 21 returned home safely. In 1987, the church expanded its children's educational outreach by opening the Child Enrichment Center. Its members have also carried out missions in more than 33 countries. The charter members were Annie Prine Green, W.L. Hancock, Berrian Harrelson, J.E. Harrelson, Lee Harrelson, Jack Lewis, Joel Lewis, Mattie Lewis, and Mary Watson.
