The George Sturges House in Los Angeles's Brentwood Heights was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for George D. Sturges and built in 1939. A modest one-story residence of about 1,200 square feet, it is an important late Wright work in Southern California, using concrete, steel, brick, and redwood with a 21-foot panoramic deck to enlarge its sense of space. Supervised during construction by Taliesin fellow John Lautner, it is especially significant as the only Southern California building in Wright's Usonian mode, distinguishing it from his better-known textile-block houses of the 1920s. The house became Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 577 in 1993.
