Cold Spring
Nature
Cold Spring is a small freshwater spring in the Ouachita National Forest east of Waldron, Arkansas, near Sugar Creek and County Road 93. Its significance comes not only from the spring itself but from Depression-era improvements built there around 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC constructed a stone-and-concrete protective structure to guard the spring from contamination and limit erosion on the hillside. Two nearby open-air concrete water holding areas and a stone culvert that carries water to Sugar Creek remain part of the site. These surviving CCC features led to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
