Tannehill Furnace and Foundry, two and a half miles east, marked the beginning of the steel industry in this area. Iron ore, reduced by charcoal and hauled by oxcart, was made into plows, pots, cannon, and munitions. The site is a state park with camping, nature trails, swimming and fishing, and early American restorations.
