Port Sulphur was the hub of the Louisiana sulphur industry. Built in 1932-33 by Freeport Sulphur Company to provide logistical support for the Grand Ecaille mine, the world's second largest Frasch sulphur mine, it was located in Lake Washington, 10 miles southwest.
