Nature
Rocky Mountain is a prominent peak in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains on the boundary of Rockbridge and Amherst counties, where it forms the highest point in both counties within George Washington National Forest. Near Irish Gap and flanked by surrounding ridges, it sits close to both the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway, linking it to two of the region’s best-known mountain routes. Its slopes drain into several waterways within the James River watershed, ultimately feeding the Chesapeake Bay. The summit holds radio towers and a VDEN packet node, yet the mountain remains especially significant for its commanding position and county-high-point status.
