Built in 1873 by John A. McKay to span the Saint Joseph River, the Spencerville Covered Bridge is a Smith Truss, Variant Four, by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio. It has remained in use through regular maintenance, repairs, and an extensive 1981 restoration, and it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
