Adlai Ewing Stevenson, 1835-1914, was one of four Kentuckians, more than any state except New York, who served as U.S. Vice Presidents. The others were Richard M. Johnson, John C. Breckinridge, and Alben W. Barkley. Born here, Stevenson moved to Illinois in 1852, served two terms in Congress, was elected Vice President with Cleveland in 1892, and was Bryan's running mate in 1900.
