Promont, an Italianate Victorian house built in 1865 on a hill above Milford and the Little Miami River, is most closely associated with John M. Pattison, Ohio’s 43rd governor. After buying the house in 1879, Pattison made it the center of state government during his brief 1906 term. Too ill with Bright’s disease to remain in Columbus after his inauguration, he returned home the same day and directed Ohio’s government from Promont until his death on June 18, 1906. Later preserved for public use, the house now serves as a Victorian-furnished museum with exhibits on local history and a research library.
