Humboldt Redwoods State Park in Northern California preserves one of the most important surviving landscapes of old-growth coast redwoods. Established in 1921 through efforts led by the Save the Redwoods League, with support from groups including the Garden Club of America, it emerged from concern over rapid destruction of redwood forests. The park includes Rockefeller Forest, the largest remaining contiguous old-growth coast redwood forest in the world, and protects thousands of acres of rare old growth, including the Bull Creek watershed. It is also known for extraordinary tree height, with more than 100 known coast redwoods over 350 feet tall found here.
