Los Encinos State Historic Park preserves the heart of Rancho Los Encinos in Encino, including the de la Ossa Adobe, the Garnier limestone building, a blacksmith shop, and the spring and pond that shaped the site’s long history. That spring sustained the Tongva village of Siutcanga for thousands of years and made the property important along the route between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara through the Spanish, Mexican, and American periods. Later owners added the adobe and limestone residence, while the springs remained a defining feature. Since 1949, the park has preserved a compact record of the San Fernando Valley’s Native, rancho, and agricultural past.
