Established in 1819, the Tremont Nail Company made nails continuously for more than 150 years. As one of the few American manufacturers of cut nails, of ancient design, the company also pioneered the production of heat treated nails. The property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, and the company was designated a National Historical Landmark by the American Society for Metals in 1976.
