Bird Island Light stands on a small island at the entrance to Sippican Harbor in Marion, Massachusetts, where it has marked the harbor since 1819. The surviving circular stone tower, an early 19th-century masonry lighthouse, endured repeated storm damage, including severe destruction in 1869, and outlasted the 1938 hurricane that swept away the rest of the station buildings. Deactivated in 1933, the light was restored and briefly returned to service in 1976, then relit in 1997 as a private aid to navigation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the island also serves as important seabird habitat, with seasonal restrictions protecting endangered roseate terns.
