Hastings City Bank began its corporate existence on October 26, 1886, when state bank charter number eleven was granted by the State of Michigan. The bank's first quarters were above a hardware store on State Street. In 1890, a new bank building was built on the southeast corner of State and Jefferson. This building was removed and a new one built on the site in 1913. In 1958, the bank acquired the present site. In 1936, Hastings City Bank was the first small country bank in Michigan to make consumer credit available to the general public. Over the years, the bank experienced steady growth, a strong capital position, and a record of uninterrupted service to its customers, based on a philosophy of safe and sound banking for the community.
