Built in 1857, this house was the boyhood home of Elbert Hubbard, who lived from 1856 to 1915 and died during the sinking of the Lusitania. A late 19th- and early 20th-century essayist and the author of “Message to Garcia,” he founded the Roycroft Shops in East Aurora, NY, which is still in operation. It opened as a colony noted for a wide variety of artistic products, including copper items, furniture, and finely printed books.
