The Williamsons, a Scotch-Irish family, settled on the South Fork of Fishing Creek in 1766 about the same time as the Brattons. Their home was a typical frontier log house with one large room downstairs and a smaller attic upstairs, and most of the surrounding land had been cleared of trees and planted in corn, wheat, and oats. After the Revolutionary War, the Williamson family sold the property to the Brattons, who dismantled the house. Captain Richard Winn, a Patriot militia officer, recalled that Captain Huck had posted himself in a strong two-story log house with his horses around him, prepared to mount at a moment's notice.
