Apple Orchard Mountain is a prominent peak in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains within the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. It is the highest point on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and the highest point in both Bedford County and Botetourt County. More than that, it is Virginia’s most topographically prominent mountain, rising more distinctly above the surrounding landscape than any other peak in the state. Its open summit sets it apart from many wooded Blue Ridge high points, and a large FAA radar installation near the top, visible from miles away, gives the mountain an especially recognizable profile across the surrounding ridges.
