At the rear of the Church of St. Charles Presbytery, Father Paret kept a vegetable garden with 488 trees, including orange, peach, pomegranate, persimmon, plum, and many others. Livestock was also part of his everyday life in rural St. Charles, a necessity for everyone, and his chickens and other fowl were a happy pastime for him.
