Curry Blockhouse / Shawnee Village “Oldtown”
Military
Following Gen. Hull’s surrender in the War of 1812, Hiriam Curry built the Curry Blockhouse to protect border settlers. It stood on the north bank of Stony Creek opposite the Indian village of “Oldtown.” At the Shawnee village “Oldtown,” a quarter mile north on Stony Creek, an Indian uprising in 1806 under Tecumseh was averted when Simon Kenton arrived with his ultimatum, “if you want to fight, we are ready.”
