Old Chihuahua Road
Transportation
The Old Chihuahua Road was a Mexican cart road running from central Mexico to the Texas coast at Indianola. It served as a route for marauding Indians as well as for Alsatian, German, Polish, and Irish immigrants seeking freedom in the New World. After 1835 it became important for exporting gold and silver, and in the 1850s it was used for army travel.
