Taylorsville was one of five dams built by the Miami Conservancy District for flood control in the Miami Valley. Completed in 1922, it had a height of 78 feet, a length of 3000 feet, and a width at the base of 415 feet. The dams of the Miami Conservancy District were intended for flood prevention purposes, and their use for power development or storage would be a menace to the cities below.
