Lime Kiln Point State Park is a 42-acre park on the western shore of San Juan Island in Washington’s San Juan archipelago, renowned as a land-based whale-watching site where wild orcas can sometimes pass within about 20 feet of shore. Its underwater topography draws marine life close to land, making breaches and spyhopping visible from the coast. The park also includes Lime Kiln Light, one of Friday Harbor’s two lighthouses, and preserves part of the island’s industrial past. Lime kilns were established here beginning in 1860, and one restored kiln remains on display alongside educational programs about both orcas and lime burning.
