Norris-Holland-Hare House

On a portion of a land grant given to his father, John Norris, Jr., Needham Norris built this house c. 1805. With his death in 1852, the house passed to one of Norris's nephews, Simpson W. Holland. In 1864, Holland left his wife and their six children to travel to Richmond but never returned. After the Battle of Bentonville in April 1865, Union troops encamped in the area and used the house as a field hospital, receiving care from Holland's widow, Mary Ann. The home passed to the Hare family, descendants of the Hollands, with whom it remained until 2004.
