Robert M. Coleman was born in Kentucky and came to Texas in 1832. He commanded a company of volunteers at the Siege of Bexar in San Antonio from Dec. 5-10, 1835, was a delegate to the constitutional convention where he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836, served as aide-de-camp to Gen. Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836, and later fought Indians as a Texas Ranger.
