Doe Run Creek Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The creek was discovered by Squire Boone and John McKinney in 1778. The district includes one of the oldest mills in Kentucky, built before 1792 by Jonathan Essery. That mill operated until 1900, when it was converted to a resort, and it became Doe Run Inn in 1927. The district also includes another mill, three houses, including one log house, and the county's first hydro electric plant.
