Henry A. Pinney lived here from 1836 to 1905, and his shoe factory stood on slightly more than three acres opposite his home at the corner of Lukes Wood and Oenoke. Built in 1870, the factory produced women’s fine shoes for thirty years and employed up to fifty people during a period when New Canaan was a major shoe manufacturing center.
