This class X67 boxcar was built in April 1970 by the Penn Central Transportation Company at the Samuel Rea Shops in Hollidaysburg to haul automobile parts, one of 154 X67-class boxcars and among the largest rolling stock ever built at 86 feet long. Constructed as Penn Central #295633, it entered service carrying Ford parts out of Brownstown, Michigan, and was designed specifically for auto parts service, transporting large automobile frames and components between car assembly plants. On April 1, 1976, it became Conrail #295633 after transfer to the new Consolidated Rail Corporation, though it apparently retained Penn Central paint for another decade. In the late 1980s, it was renumbered and repainted as Conrail #243880, and in August 1995 it was assigned to the Chrysler stamping plant at Twinsburg, Ohio. After Conrail was purchased and divided between Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation on June 1, 1999, the car went to CSX, was restenciled as NYC #243880, and was assigned to autoparts service for General Motors out of Parma, Ohio. In January 2020, CSX removed the 50-year-old car from active service and donated it to The Conrail Historical Society, after which Pennsylvania and Southern Railway temporarily relocated it to a siding near Chambersburg before Dave's Truck Repair moved it to Shippensburg Station in 2021. A grant from the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation supported its restoration and conversion into a museum and archive housing The Conrail Historical Society's collection of manuscripts and artifacts.
