Carter Mountain is a 12,324-foot peak in Wyoming’s Shoshone National Forest, rising more gradually from the Bighorn Basin on the east and dropping away in steep cliffs on its western side, creating a strikingly uneven shape. The surrounding landscape supports abundant wildlife, including large herds of bighorn sheep, pronghorn, and elk. Set between basin country and mountain forest, the mountain is significant for both its dramatic topography and the rich animal life that inhabits and crosses this terrain.
